I'm saying that I have faith in humanity and whether you like it or not, cops are part of humanity.

For fuck's sake, how the hell am I supposed to know? So I should just assume that all of you people are bad people and that we'd be better off without any of you because I don't know your entire life story? No, I'm saying that you should not give me a gun and a badge and absolute power and tell me to enforce laws that are arbitrarily beneficial to no one except the person enforcing them for the sake of having a job, because that might corrupt me.

if you watch enough TV you'd think the world is the worst it has ever been when really we are living in arguably the most peaceful time in the history of the world. it's just that the news only reports bad news and people have more access to this news so it creates the illusion that things are terrible.

Cops are constantly saying how dangerous the job is. Yet the job does not even appear on the list of the top ten most dangerous jobs. I grew up working as an electrician, it is really nothing for me to work with live high voltage electricity, Electrical line worker is number 9 on the list.
Police Officer? Not on the list. but they would have you belive that they are in constant danger, while wearing body armor and armed to the teeth...Riiight.

I wish I could find this interview of the German doctor/sociologist that explained all this. he really set things out and put things in perspective. it was a great interview. he essentially gets around to blaming the media for causing a lot of people to have this negative world view.

all in all he discussed how violence and disease and overall human progress and all these other things are better than they have been throughout the history of the world, giving plenty of statistics and examples.

Cops need accountability and to know that if they fuck up, they will get called out on it. I think body cams are a start. It's certainly a long road, but I think we can get there.

Give me a badge, gun and authority and I'll enforce that every day is Wednesday. As long as none of you give me backtalk on that, we're good.

Do we need cops = absoutely Are the cops corrupt = pretty much
the proof = they never ticket and/or arrest each other. When a cop gets it in his head that he wants to bust you he will turn you, your car, and your house inside out looking for any and all violations of the law, they will also look into your asshole with a flashlight. These same cops witness endless transgressions from the law by their fellow cops and hardly ever lift a finger to do anything about it. Don't they take an oath or something?? That situation is a microcosm of the general "above the law" attitude that the police have. It's rotten

I am in 100% agreement that watching the news all the time fills people's heads with negativity and despair. It sells

gun homicide rates are down nearly 50% since 1993 but you would never think that considering the way the media currently covers gun violence.

Probably because our gun violence is still completely out of control
