Who was the guy who used to post on the DaveO version of the forum about his festivals in Wisco or Minnesota (I think)? Pretty sure there was a photo or video of someone at the fest with a racoon on a leash. Didn't he pull some shit like this, or maybe he just was known for not paying the bands? Whatever. Skull & Roses guy sounds like he pulled a Fyre Festival but bailed before people started showing up.

Tim sundog corcoran. Saw him once at a shoe fest in N IL. Yeah, I think he ripped buddy cage off at some point. He was such a strange and volatile person for a dead promoter

I wasn't sure if my forgetting had more to do with my advancing age or being physically away from the scene for a long time. Maybe I'll just stick with the tried and true and blame wine and weed for sloughing off the brain cells assigned to that particular memory.

Non-refundable has me thinking I can’t get my money back because a work project will prevent me from attending, not fuck you there is no festival now.

I got curious about this so I read the terms and conditions for the baygrass festival in MD that goes on sale next week. There is no explicit guarantee of a refund if they cancel the event. It has some language about how the promoters have the right to cancel the event followed by "In the event that a refund is offered" you have to request one in certain time frame yada yada. It's doesn't say that a refund will definitely be offered.

^^ Not all fest promoters are bad people. I had tickets to the 1st baygrass that was cancelled the day before the fest was supposed to start due to a hurricane. They transitioned the fest to be 2 days at a local brewery partner, offered free food (that they had already ordered) to the VIP ticket holders, and sold merch at a significantly reduced rate. After the weekend was over, they offered full refunds to everyone - you had to request them in a certain time frame. You also had the option of donating your ticket price or rolling your purchase over the the next year's festival.
I took the risk and rolled mine over. They added a pre-fest (day before) show at a local venue to those who rolled over the tickets.
Not all fest promoters are bad people.

I think there's still a significant difference between weather that ruined a festival and deciding a week before the festival that you just don't have the money to make it work. I've been to Delfests and Allgoods that were highly impacted by weather and that's nobody's fault. I drove all the way up past Ferd to see Curveball get cancelled by the local government. But a social media post saying, d'oh, we ain't got no money and can't do the festival but thanks for your money is outrageous. Maybe at least explain how you used it all, why it can't be refunded and why you didn't figure this out until now.

I didn't say anyone was bad. Just pointing out that there is no explicit guarantee of a refund.

I'm friends with a guy who puts together a lot of shows and after parties around here and around big phish shows. He's a cool guy but a bit of a shade ball. There have been a few over the years that I met through jambase who were awesome guys, some who i still keep in touch with.

I'm all in on the cospiracy theories for this fest. This is what i've gathered: Last year the fest really struggled and they had a hard time paying all the bands, vendors, etc. The guy who put it together found himself in massive debt and knew the only way he could get out of this hole was for this long con. So he put out this fest making it seem like all was well, knowing full well he could make people get tickets and not read the fine print, and at the last minute purposely canceled it just so he could break even, pay off his debts and ride into the night. Major tool bag move.

Promoting has many risks. I think of the Woodstock's. Fests can from zero to shit show quickly.
