I definitely think it's both possible and plausible that we develop some kind of spacecraft that will house a multigenerational expedition to travel farther than is possible for a human to do in one lifetime. The only thing that might prevent it would be a catastrophic natural event that destroys civilization or that the destruction of ourselves occurs faster than the planning and construction of the vessel.
