It all kinda freaks me out a bit.
I think he truly wants to improve our world but his altruism is tainted by his narcissism. I'm not sure about the price point, but there is definitely a legitimate concern with polluting space with tons of satellites
They are destroying the canvas mankind has gazed upon in wonder for tens of thousands of years. It is one of the only things that remains unchanged through the ages and is a cultural touchstone that connects every civilization. Might all well spray paint the Grand Canyon bright red and slap a Coca-Cola logo on it while we're at it.
Tesla and Amazon want tens of thousands of satellites up in the next 5 years.
It's already noticeable to see satellites just look up for 30 seconds.
In 5 years the whole sky will be moving. Kind of cool but also really lame
Kessler syndrome. It's a theory that space debris collide with other objects creating a cascading effect where each collision creates more and more debris that blankets the orbit. If this happens we are effectively cutting ourselves off from space. And yes the light pollution would be so bad that we would also drastically diminish our view of space as well.
Our generation can just not give a fuck and do it anyways and have 3 generations ahead of us realize we made a irreversible mistake to out environment.
