I tried to dry fit the frame piece that goes along the bottom curve last night and it snapped while I was bending it. Haven't made any progress yet today.

I recently learned that solo ocean sailors don't wear life jackets because all it does is prolong your death. Better to drown after you get too exhausted to tread water than spending a week dying of thirst because you can't bring yourself to unclip the jacket. This is metal as hell. This doesn't make any sense. What if you were just knocked off the boat by a wave. Also the longer you are floating the more chance you have to be found by search and rescue. You only get one life, prolong as much as possible. I find it hard to believe claims that sailors do this. The only reason I could imagine someone would ignore a lifejacket is if they felt that their swimming was strong enough.

If you fall off the boat in the middle of the ocean without putting out a mayday and without any fresh water to drink, the chances of someone finding you before you die of thirst are basically zero. Single handed sailors wear a harness and stay tied to the boat when they go on deck but they don't wear a pfd.

Single handed sailors wear a harness and stay tied to the boat when they go on deck but they don't wear a pfd. I think that is flawed logic. If you have a PFD when you go man over board, and you find yourself in that situation (floating for hours/days with no assistance around), why not ... remove the PFD! However the converse does not apply; you go overboard and do not have a PFD, you can't simply unstrap it to change the scenario. I'd rather have that choice, than not have that choice. Plus, who doesn't want to live even a little bit longer?

Well you can think what you want but it's the logic followed by people who spend their lives alone at sea.

Inflatable raft for back up It’s like a little boat on your boat. Keep a ship in a bottle on the raft.

Life jacket is def going to be the backup. I don't see this thing getting very far from shore. Or in very deep water.
I made a little progress today. So far I think it's going pretty well. I'm almost done getting the frame pieces complete on one side. Bending the framing around the bottom curve of the hull is the most difficult part of this phase. I think the second side will be a little easier.

So I was reading this article about this dude who built a tiny boat that he was going to try to circumnavigate in. He got hit by a big wave and the boat got knocked upside down and sank but he was wearing an automatic inflatable life vest and he was rescued relatively quickly by a shipping vessel. He later built a boat that was only a little bit bigger (14 ft) and completed the circumnavigation. Frenchman are nuts.
