I'm with honky here, had no idea what hp was.
Honestly I've never seen lotr and just 1 or 2 HP. I did read the first 3 when they came out I was a child

i enjoyed both Lord of the rings and harry potter... Lotr, lots more but i really enjoyed the HP series. books as well

Ok so, I am a guest on this forum but I just had to come tell you this:
Book wise and movie wise, LOTR is probably better.
But here is the thing, Harry Potter did things that LOTR could never hope to accomplish..
Harry Potter got a whole generation into reading. Kind of like Dr. Seuss?
The impact that HP has had on my life is tremendous. It helped forge me into the man I am today.
That being said;
If you like fantasy then read the Wheel of time Series and the Kingskiller Chronicles.

Yeah I mean kids all read the harry pooper books so thats cool they read.
I read The Hobit and LOTR growing up so that obviously played into the fact that I really love LOTR movies.
