That's a long time for in-laws to be at your house. Mine live just down the road but we don't see them too often. They brought the 11 yo home from hockey tonight though so that was cool.

So... that thing I told you guys about my mom moving in across the street is happening. I still think it's a good idea, but I'm also having a tinge of anxiety that there will be no boundaries. I'm sure it will be fine.

Well that was not the conversation I was wanting to have tonight….one of my best buds and his wife are calling it quits. Almost 20 years married. I knew there were some issues but shit, just a bummer.

Well that was not the conversation I was wanting to have tonight….one of my best buds and his wife are calling it quits. Almost 20 years married. I knew there were some issues but shit, just a bummer. It sucks. Ive been dealing with similar with 2 best friends, and its almost entirely due to drugs/alcohol. Now, 3 years later, the woman friend is entirely dysfunctional alcoholic/addict (2 medical assisted detox this year and alcohol blower in car...). Its absolute insanity. You'd think she was just hit with papers but she is 3 years out and only getting worse. Thankfully he has found sobriety and stability after leaving her. It is a huge stressor on me because I am one of 2 stable, sincere friends she has left. She doesn't even have family in her corner, its crazy. Anyway, it sucks, made me feel like venting. Hopefully they both find the best in themselves as result of the split.

ya thats tough our friends broke up recently too. you cant invite them to the same things, but inviting one offends the other.

Same here, Tree. Find the best in themselves. They have a 12 year old daughter and that can be such a fucked up age to have all this happening, but from what I am gathering, she might be the most levelheaded “it’s about damn time” about all of it between the three of them. Still processing myself stuff like what Phish was talking about. I actually talked to his wife too and got back on the phone with him thinking fuck, is that the last conversation I have with her? Eh, we will see where all this lands.

I have no respect for cops who don't respect the If the van is a rocking, then don't come a knocking mantra.

One of my best buds had a great group of neighbors - around 10 of them total. Kids all the same ages, big neighborhood parties, holidays, ballgames and vacations together, etc. Sure enough the inevitable affair occurred. Everybody picked sides, divorces, people moved away...
Wiped out this really nice thing they had for a good 5 years or so. Sad.

Ugh I don't want to think about long time friends getting split up. We had so much fun hanging with all our couple show friends before phish. The pessimist in me just assumes it'll be me

The big divorce bubble happens when couples are in their 50s. I guess we are getting to the beginning of that.

Most of my divorced friends got married super young and are already on their second marriage or never remarried.

I had one friend divorce, 6 months after his wedding. Still single I believe. This guy I used to be best friends with since high school had a 7 year relationship with another highschool friend which ended in disaster and broke up some of the friendships and then started dating my wife's best friend (first person she met and lived with when she moved out to Chicago for college) which eventually ended the relationship between me and him and my wife and her friend. What a mess but 100% for the better!

When X n I were stil together folks would ask all the time. When ya gettin married ?
Wasn't for us, in hindsight thankfully so
However.it did seem that all of our longer termed couple friends that did get married , ended up divorced with 3-5 years

the key to not getting divorced, is never getting married in the first place.

Marriage was always in our future. When we started dating everything just felt so natural and right. We've always been pretty insynch with each other but the kids have a tendency to throw us off our game.
