I bought tickets for Beat in October at Royal Oak Music Theater It's Adrian Belew, Steve Vai, Danny Carey, and Tony Levin playing 80's king crimson
it's gonna rage!
Well I got a notice that the venue has changed to the Masonic Cathedral in Detroit.
This is the second time I've tried to go to Royal Oak and have had it changed to Detroit. WTF! Can't I just buy a concert ticket to a venue anymore?

Stoked man cuz Ade is my absolute all time favorite guitar player and Vai ain’t slouchin and DC is king of the throne and Tony Levin may be the best in the bass business and I love the 80s new wave Crim era so fuck yeah!

Celebrity Theatre.... a dangerous place? Its in a real shithole neighborhood near Van Buren which is an interesting historical route that has regentrified several times from the Route 66 in the 50s and 60d to the crack and hoes of the 90s and I believe it’s the roadway where street walking hookers go to die now (as opposed to “The Blade” on 27th Avenue where healthy young street walking hookers and their pimps run the street) but the venue I think is safe. Seent some great shows there and Primus utilized the spinning stage the entire gig and rotates it counter clockwise and then reverse and it’s fucking cool to spin it but like Bob Weir kept that stage stationary when RatDog played it but they did a decent renovation and I dig that round room. I hope BEAT keeps the stage spinning, a slow spin though not dizzying. I heard Fripp not only endorsed BEAT but he also named it.

I seent the Tony Levin Band play at the Rhythm Room once and he was hanging out willing to meet and greet everyone there and was cool as fuck and signed like three cd’s for me. I love when he busts out those bass fingers like fucking Freddy Krueger n shit and don’t even get me started on the Chapman.

That's cool that Fripp endorsed the project but I'm not surprised. More surprised at having Vai play Fripp's parts. Vai seems more of a Belew type player. I'm sure it'll work and be awesome, though.

I'm going to cast my vote for Crimson as band from the 60/70's that best transitioned into the 80's. Better than The Stones, The Who, The Dead, Dylan, Van Morrison, Clapton, Floyd, etc. Probably because they didn't (try to) sound anything like they did in the previous two decades so their sound and material was fresh instead of them just trying to sound like themselves with 80's sounding instruments and production values.

Went shopping this afternoon and as I pull into the parking garage of the store I see a pack of 5-6 homeless people seeing on the steps to the right of the entrance and notice there’s a lady just straight blowing a dude right on the steps directly at the entrance to the garage and next to the bus stop.
Welp, don’t see that every day…
Anyway after I finish shopping there’s two cop cars and the dude cuffed and mouth bloodied on the ground because well of course…what the hell did you think was going to happen?
Crack scene around here is wild.

Just the audacity of the location choice is what gets me.
There is literally an abandoned drive thru restaurant across the street, or railroad tracks, or various alleys
Guess when the mood strikes, the mood strikes.
I’m also curious what the rest of the group was doing because they seemed pretty disinterested and/or oblivious.

There was a CCM ride a few years ago where a few hundred cyclists had to pass some random (crackhead?) jerkin his junk right downtown on the sidewalk. There are always some crazy ass people in the city. Makes me feel like I really have it together.

I think that can be argued and I also think it depends on what you're looking to get out of the musical experience. I love Discipline, and I love Adrian Belew but comparing KC's early work to their later work is apples and oranges considering the musicians Fripp was playing with is completely different. While bands like, Floyd, the Stones, The Who, the Dead, etc, were losing some of members, the core guys were still there and the music they made from the 60's and 70's was the reason people were going out to see them, not necessarily because of newer material. I think it's almost an apples to orange comparison because KC was trying to reinvent themselves at that time, while all these others bands may have been trying to adjust to the era but continue with that classic sound that their fanbases grew to love.
