"Understanding" is probably the wrong word. I'll never understand it. Empathy is probably better.
(Although when I quit smoking the first time many years ago I used Chantix and a nurse told me the dramatic mood swings were like PM'sing. It was pretty awful.)

There was a while I was getting sick of having fights picked with me for no reason and I started marking these stupid interaction on a calendar. After several months I pointed out the issue and used my marks on the calendar to attempt to prove some point that I'm still not completely sure of. This in no way whatsoever worked out in my advantage or helped prevent future monthly fights for no reason. |

So that when you know things are going to be more sensitive around the house. When it might be a good time to spend more private taco time in the garage, taco cave, or on outside taco projects. When to give more leeway and not try to get your point across or even engage in any kind of interaction that you could see turning argumentative. When to try to pick up some overtime hours at work or schedule a longer bike ride. When it's better to keep your mouth shut even when you know you're in the right (that one's pretty much always). |

I have always been pretty good at noticing "that time" with past GFs. In my last relationship, I sometimes knew before she did. Not so much with my teenage daughter. I think teens are just moody in general so it's hard to tell.

My training and experience has taught me to focus on the specific interactions such as when that communication made me feel bad and I didn't like that versus you are acting bipolar and talking hella shit that's baseless
