Deer camp, day 2. Times are getting desperate. The little red squirrel that was totally fascinated by a human 20' up in a tree was looking more and more tasty.
Two late nights in a row have claimed many casualties. #3 is nestled snuggly in the pull out couch and Timmer is catching a few extra winks as well.
I stand patrol by my lonesome at the top of the sledding hill.
All quiet on the Western front

Sturgill show was great. Kind of a strange venue. And I will never understand how people spend money on a ticket and then spend the show yapping like they are at a bar after work, complete with being turned around not even looking at the stage. Same sort of thing at the Duluth show. 😵💫 Such a yin and yang from being at the Maiden show a couple of nights earlier where people are just zoned in on the tunes. Maybe it’s just me and my headSPACE make me notice it but it is hard to ignore people screaming to each other. 😂 Maybe this belongs on the You Know You Are Old Thread….

#3 and I headed to the creek stand for the evening hunt yesterday. About 70 yards out, I noticed another gentlemen dressed in orange in a tree on the neighboring property about 100 yards from our intended stand.
We COULD have sat there anyway, but it would have been awkward, and we both may have ended up shooting at the same deer, so we called an audible and turned tail and headed south to Chuck's stand, our Western most outpost on the Bethany front.
With about half an hour of shooting light, and #3 sleeping peacefully in the stand next to me, a buck finally steps into view about 100 yards off in the dense woods.
I wait for him to move to a more open area and put the scope on him. He's quartering towards, so I level the cross hairs just behind his shoulder.
I nudged #3 to let him know I was on a deer and not to jump too much when the 6.5 creedmoor barks.
BANG!
The deer bucked and ran off. I think I hit him, but recent events have me doubting my confidence and competence.
I get out of the stand and look around where he was standing when I shot. BLOOD! Not a ton, but enough to know it was a good hit.
He ultimately ran about 150 yards down the side of a hill and piled up in a small creek.
SUCCESS!
Going to make jerky (among plenty of other recipes) for DPB.
Also have the heart and liver... Going to dehydrate them into dog treats for Millie

We're also picking up the hot dogs, pepper jack dogs, pepperoni and slim jims that we had this awesome sausage maker in Rochester make for us from #3's deer sometime this week.
Need to get #1 on the board and I'd like if we shot a couple does to fill up the freezer
