Record store had a used pro-ject debut carbon come in and I bought it on my lunch break just now. A steal, I think, at $250. It actually belonged to the store owner at one point. It also has a ortofon 2mblue cartridge on it which are like $200 new. This is a huge upgrade for me and I can't wait to get home after work and try it.

It's a little disappointing that this turntable produces static and the solution appears to be to upgrade to the acrylic platter. It is certainly a step up in sonic quality, but the static is unacceptable.

I put a leather slipmat on it, but it's still doing it. I haven't replaced the needle. I'm going to see what record store guy says, as he once owned it. |

In hindsight, I was noticing quite a bit of static from the albums when removing them from the platter before, it just wasn't showing up as the pops that it is on this turntable. Perhaps the answer is needing to start off by spin cleaning them and getting some sort of antistatic brush or something.

And I question if the big fudge could actually be creating more static on the albums even if I'm using the cleaner. I've just been using distilled water with it because I ran out of the spray.

I got a David Bowie - The Man Who Sold the World off discogs. It's a 1972 reissue. The vinyl was rated very good plus and the seller even commented that it was awesome and was listening now. Well, it's got a scratch across the first side, pretty much the entire side, that is very loudly audible during playback and a tiny, but deep, scratch on the second side that is so bad it is loud over the loud music. I'm so bummed. Now I have to navigate the process of contacting the seller etc. I'd prefer to avoid leaving negative feedback and certainly don't want him leaving me negative feedback in return. This is very disheartening. I can't imagine this happened during shipping. Hopefully he's cool and will resolve the issue in a respectful manner. Bummer.

Might sell them I have an original Vitalogy that I bought because it came out a couple weeks before the cd. Then I scratched it the first night on our crappy radio shack unit. I have the newer reissue and it sounds great, but damn it. |
