The stereo and speakers I have are pioneer from the mid 90s that I bought at a yard sale. The receiver is like 300 watts and the woofers are both trashed. I'm looking at replacing the speakers and, damn, these things are pricey. I don't need high end. I just need an upgrade over the old ones I have now.

The three Prine albums I thought were messed up seemed fine over the weekend. Oh damn. Nine Pound Hammer skips at the end every time. It repeats, rather than skips. It's a real bummer. Last track on the album. |

Well... I bumped the arm last night and now it doesn't play. I knew that operating the turntable while drinking was gonna end up being a poor decision.

I have a cheap audio-technica turntable that works pretty well. I also have a Sansui turntable from the 70’s but it is a pain in the ass and very finicky.
My receiver is a Marantz 2220b which I LOVE.
My speakers are Cerwin Vega’s that I inherited from Rich’s parents.

Yeah, I'm using the $99 audio technica. Or I have been. Hopefully I can troubleshoot it later and get it working.

Upon further reading I think it's an issue with the vertical tracking force. I'm also realizing that I never did anything to set up the tone arm initially, so maybe that will account for the other issues I've experienced. Did I really fail to read the manual when I bought this thing? That is unlike me.

Success! Changed the stylus. Now I see that this model doesn't have a counterweight, but you might be able to make slight adjustments if needed. I'm glad I didn't have to do that. The record involved in the incident came out unscathed too.

Turns out I can still learn new things. I turned the bass and treble DOWN on the eq and the vinyls sound pretty damn good. The plants are slowly taking over this room, though.  |

Ah dang... UPS tried to deliver one of the albums today, but there are crews in our neighborhood replacing the gas lines and the driver was unable to deliver it. Now I have to wait until Monday to pick it up. I was really looking forward to playing it tomorrow.

I totally forgot that there is a record store in town now. I got on his fb and watched a bunch of videos of new stock being flipped through. I'm going over there straight from work. Oh man!

The story on the place is that this guy is an avid lifelong collector and his wife made him sell off some of it. He is definitely metal centric, but I saw a lot of other good stuff. So, his hours are only 3 hours two days and 5 hours on Saturday and apparently his prices are a little steep. He gets a lot of comments from people wanting things he posts, though. I saw a John Prine, Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique, Talking Heads - Remain in Light, several Pearl Jam, and there was even a Phish bootleg. I couldn't tell what it said, but it looked like a picture with Santana on stage. I am really excited to go flip through his inventory.
