its very hard to avoid cancer causing agents in food. all the grain based food is sprayed with the nasty and some of that is def linked to cancer and/or may assist in raising body toxicity. organic may be better, i think so, but unless you grow it at home and put nothing on it like i do its been sprayed.
course not all chemicals sprayed are created equal as far as toxicity
i dont think meat will go away til people start dropping like rocks at early ages. avg life expectancies are not trending down so perhaps you can have your meat and eat it to.
i find myself drifting away from it but dont see my self giving up meat entirely any time soon..

it's unavoidable, they've even found cancer in herbivorous dinosaurs.

thats my view.. so i go with moderation and try to tune into my body to hear what it needs.
i really wouldn't want to eat steak every night but once or twice a month is very tasty. and i really dont want to eat carbs carbs and more carbs all the time.
veggies remain at the top of my pyramid.

yeah variety is the spice of life, I always try to not eat the same animal/plant/whatever in a week. well except for pizza, I sometimes find myself eating pizza like 3 or 4 times a week, it's my major weakness in life.

my biggest issue currently is i love french fries, fried potatoes, i bake fries sometimes as well. and you have this: Scientists have found a clue to the chemical reaction that causes potato chips, french fries and other fried and baked starchy foods (roots like potatoes/beets/carrots, grains like wheat and rice, corn, peas, beans, etc.) to build up high levels of “acrylamide” a cancer-causing substance. “Asparagine” is a naturally occurring amino acid that, when heated with natural sugars such as glucose, forms the life shortening acrylamide carcinogen.
im not too worried but i eat potatoes couple times a week, sometimes 3 times. my spicy fried potatoes are so so delicious

Guiness just changed their recipe (or is in 2016) that has been in place for like 600 years, eliminated their product being filtered thru fish bladder.
I don't care as much about Veagan as being sustainable, but they go hand in hand.

I made some soy chorizo for the first time last night and I thought it was great. It will become more of a staple going forward.

Never seen that one before; Field Roast is my preferred brand.

I have so many questions. What led to your choice to be vegetarian/vegan is my most important question.
Also, is fish considered meat? I consider anything that was an animal to be meat.

Where I am at now has been a progression since 2011 or so.
After summer was over I decided I wanted to be give vegetarianism a go, and I spent the fall doing it horribly. I basically just ate a bunch of carbohydrates for a few months, then eventually had a slice of pepperoni pizza and relapsed.
Then I was off again for a year or so, and then decided to give pescetarian a go, which is vegetarian plus fish.
I got really into sushi for a while there, and every time I would go out to dinner with my parents I would order something seafood based.
I didn't tell em' what I was doing for a while because I guess I just assumed they would not be approving and somewhat offended, which was totally untrue. But, I didn't find that out until I spent a week visiting my brother who noticed real quick and just asked if I was doing vegetarianism, and I basically said working on it.
Then he told my parents, and they embraced it and were totally supportive. The last seafood item I ate was some lobster on my birthday in June of 2013.
Then after doing that for almost a year, on Cinco De' Mayo I thought I would go ahead and make some enchiladas, and I found a vegan recipe and made a batch at home.
I really, really enjoyed the food so much that I pretty much just ate the leftovers for about three days, and had not taken in any dairy or eggs.
So, I decided to see how long I could keep it up, and started researching and cooking all sort of food stuffs I've never had before that are not really commonly available in restaurants. I liked the creative outlet, and the lifestyle took.
I want to start experimenting with raw cuisine down the road here to start integrating more of that into my diet.

I also think that as humanity continues to acknowledge that our resources are limited and the public demand for a more sustainable culture grows, a vegan diet will be the logical choice for humanity to adopt because it solves many problems that we face. Today is the easiest day to be a vegan there ever has been in our modern world, and tomorrow will be easier than today, and so on.

Thank you! I didn't know there was an actual term for the veg plus fish. It makes sense now. So you made the choice for more health/quality of life as opposed to being against the death of animals?
What is the cheese you eat actually made of?
And have do you know of anyone that is vegan because of they don't want animals to be killed? Do they wear shoes made of leather or have a car with leather interior?
I love the idea of having complete control of what you put in your body but I cannot see myself committing that much. I usually have a couple days a week that I don't have meat. Today is one of those days. Tomorrow, not so much.
