So what do you suggest we/they do?
I’m no foreign policy expert but I imagine if Putin didn’t have access to nukes we’d have done something by now. We have sent tons of military equipment, money and various other aid.
Personally I think nato should go in to Belarus and cut Russia off there but again I don’t know shit about any of this. But to say that we’re ok with the Ukrainian people being slaughtered is wrong.

There are no easy answers. I can't even imagine what Europe would look like if nukes started to fly. It would be a level of civilian carnage the world has barely glimpsed before.

Hes begging for a real reaction from larger forces so he has an excuse to drop a nuke. Maybe not on us, but somewhere, just to flash his hard on to the world and say I dare you. He has nothing to lose, he doesnt care about the Russian people, the rest of the world generally doesnt want anything to do with him and wont take him into the fold. He has zero principles. Thankfully, China has a long game and wont go down that road with him (they are giving it another decade or 2 and that WILL be something to worry about). But when he nukes Ukraine or some other country, what can the world do? drop a nuke on Russian citizens? Maybe we have the technology to make a catastrophic blow to his military operations while impacting relatively low amounts of citizens, but he is begging for the world to resort to dirty and destructive measures on him so he can be like, "see youre just like me...".

The world has been coming to a geopolitical head I think (from someone clueless of nuances in that department). All our empires, US included, fein some sort of higher road, strategically styling our actions so we can't be labeled a bad guy, even though we only exist through a violent and ruthless history and the continued exploitation of something somewhere. So everything is petty or economic warfare. Localized and generally restricted to areas of poverty. Folks that want a come up like putin see the weakness in all that. He wants to move the line, blow the cover of world powers and be like, if you won't take it, I will. It has the potential to strengthen global bonds or destroy them.

Gahh...Im not talking about any of you....I know you dont think its right.....Im talking about the countries in the West...France, Germany, the U.S., all of NATO...
They could at least do a no fly zone..If Putin fires on that, thats on him...Just seems the West gives him too much license...and he will take it every time. Appeasement has never worked...the shithead is going to push. Im so sad for these people....a travesty.
One city...22,000...and everyone (NATO/WEST) is just watching the 8 mile convoy gearing up for Donbas...Humanity is seriously fucked up with their priorities.

I go back and forth daily on fuck it, don’t get involved with troops, etc vs this monster is hauling Ukrainians back to Russia for what I am sure is not to give them barista jobs, the footage and testimonies of the carnage being left behind in cities and now this dude has called in some ruthless asshole from Syria to ratchet that carnage up? It feels like we’ve seen this before and we sat on the sidelines doing this and that until finally Japan attacked us and it was game on with Hitler. Like I said, I go back and forth with it all, but it feels like all signs are pointing towards this continuing to go down a very dark path. I am not an accredited historian. I am simply an enthusiastic fan of history with a sixth grade education and an abiding love for all God’s creatures.

I'm the same. Bounce back and forth between thinking this is gonna be another one of those world sitting by and watching and then having another opportunity to say "never again," and not wanting to get involved, escalate, etc.. The sad observable fact is that throughout history some assholes are always doing shit like this, and as tragic as it is to watch, and even shittier for those who are victims or are close to those being victimized, the world keeps spinning and will continue to do so as long as no one decides to escalate things to the 'fuck it' point and launch massive amounts of nukes. The planet can heal (if the planet would even need to?) if there's a fuck ton of people killed, but it'll take far longer to heal from nuclear damage. It's kind of interesting witnessing what's going on and ruminating on how people can conveniently overlook or completely fail to acknowledge their own countries atrocious acts (past or present) committed in the name of national security, "interests," etc. and easily point fingers when it's some 'other' who is committing the atrocity. It's not so much that people suck (they do), but politicians, big business interests, and those entrusted to lead or (more likely) have assumed control just tend to be assholes as well. When I feel like a misanthrope/nihilist I try to turn to humor.  |

The world suddenly has this 80's Cold War vibe. While the Qanon nuts are waiting for the return of JFK and/or JFK Jr. (it's too crazy for me to really want to know how they think that all works) I wouldn't be surprised if Reagan and Thatcher suddenly returned from the dead.
