No sweat... wikipedia says the Hot Rod DeVille has four 12AX7 preamp tubes and two 6L6 power tubes (and the Deluxe has 3 instead of 4). Let's see about the power tube bias about this amp...

I'm not a tube snob either I just creep on the good deals. I have an RCA 5Y3 and a Raytheon 6V6 but I havent tried them yet. Just in the short time I've been watching and buying tubes the market has shifted. At least on Reverb. The reasonably priced gems are way harder to find. I have managed to grab an assortment of stuff, I just need a tester. Thought my dad had one, but he can't find it. |

I wont gamble on untested tubes unless it's a steal. I've gotten quite a bit from this cat who tests his. reverb.com/shop/clemonsmusic Fuzz Audio in CO has a big selection but their prices are high retail. Single ended amps are easy because you dont have to worry about matched pairs of power tubes since there is only one. |

hellphish you're in luck because the amp has a test point so all you need is a multimeter to set the idle current for the 6L6s. I have a bunch of power and preamp tubes sitting around that I can send you to try. PM me your address and we can get your rig tuned up!

The amp repair guy said he'd sell me a 70s Acoustic 136 for a great price so I went by there today and nabbed it. I was going to buy his Blues deville too if he still had it but he sold that this morning. $200 bucks was a steal for that too. I can run the drum machine and the synth into the Acoustic amp at the same time. It was owned by a local reverend who used it in church, probably for decades. It has a holy aura.

Also I gotta test my power tubes in my amp then I'll send them out to ya phishman.
What I think you should do has an order to it. First check the bias on the power tubes in there. If it is spec then drop in some new ones and adjust the bias to spec and play them. If that doesnt improve it then I would swap the preamp tubes one at a time.
