In general I want nothing to do with cops.
But I had a run in with one the other day at the sporting goods store. I walked in made a purchase and asked to get a propane tank filled. Went outside and I'm standing there at the propane tank with the employee getting it filled. A motorcycle cop rolls up hard, jumps out and asks me where I got the shirt I'm wearing from. I told him it was my shirt and asked him what was going on. He proceeds to question me about what I was doing in the store and finally tells me that someone in the store accused me of stealing the shirt.
At this point I tell the cop to take a close look at the stains and rips on the shirt that clearly indicate it's not new. At this point the cop realizes that it's not stolen. He asks me go back into the store and talk to the manager. I don't mind because I have to pay for the propane and I want to face my accuser anyway.
We enter the store and the manager is waiting there and immediately says yes that's the guy I saw put the shirt on and walk out the door. The cop asks if she is sure, at that point I start getting upset and tell the manager she is wrong let's go look at your surveillance footage.
The cop then steps in and tells the manager that the shirt is clearly not new. She doesn't buy it and continues to claim I stole the shirt. At that point the cop tells me to leave and I go on to the register and pay for my propane. The cop continues to try and convince the lady she is wrong. After I left the cop passes me in the lot and apologizes to me for the hassle.

I don't like cops until some crackhead is waving a gun around. ive been really good at avoiding them and im nice as pie. last I got pulled over for 50 in a 30, he says you know how fast you were going? about 50, I says ? he handed me back my lic/reg and said I appreciate your honesty have a nice day. no ticket nothing.

I’m pretty anti cop. I know there are some good ones who try to do what their job is supposed to be, protect and serve, and I went to school with some decent guys, who became cops. I wonder what they are like on the job. I just have had too many bad interactions with shitty cops who like fucking with people. So....fuck the police? I'm with frodo. I've never had one do a "good" thing for me. During my thankfully few and far between interactions I've always been treated like shit. Even as a kid. And I look like a fucking cop... What people of color go thru is beyond my comprehension. |

Even a decent cop is just a professional traffic snitch. Who the heck wants to tell on people for a living? This is the most juvenile comment I have ever read on this forum. Don't call 911 for police to come to your home. Ever. Even if your shit is getting jacked or your family is in danger. |

Moretabs I cant believe you are talking such shit about people that want to go into law enforcement.
Tom is about a fine as a human being there is in this world. ...and I do not say that because Im his mother. He is the most genuine and loving human being I could have ever asked for in a son.
We sat here watching this escalating shit last night and Im pleading for him not to go into this profession because of all this BULLSHIT going on with the different actors in this whole looting thing and people with their different agendas and what-not... This country is fucking lost and sick. I do not want him to get embroiled in that.
He is pretty upset that this cop did that, of course. It gives the good ones a much more terrible time when they go and do their job like it SHOULD BE DONE.

Ive never been treated by one kindly who took me as a person into consideration. Ive always got the "just doing my job mentality and looking to screw you. Hard" mentality.

For what it's worth, I said there are good police as often as there are good politicians. There are some. But seeking power over people attracts a type. And most of us here have met the bad type at one point.

If cops didnt often come off as dicks with no respect for others, like a bully trying to manufacture trouble and get jollies on a power trip, maybe we wouldnt look at them as enemies that ruin lives for a living. They literally take people in a bad place and put them in a system that definitely makes life more difficult to manage and potentially creates a progressive breakdown of the human being until they have no opportunity to get better.
That said, sometimes they are just doing traffic stops, reminding of speed limits, offering reasonable tickets and making honest welfare checks or responding to distress and legit emergencies and pulling folks at the bottom away to a place that they have time to reexamine their lives and get treatment that is much needed. Real honest work that is tough to enforce but necessary in a society.
How as citizens are we supposed to separate these 2 interpretations, let alone anyone of a race or other targeted demographic that through example cannot allow police to be seen as anything but a deadly enemy?
How can anyone approach that with respect first and questions later?

Community On Patrol.. WE are that community and its high time took back over our own patrol

I will also admit my usual resentment is greatly amplified and exasperated by the current circumstances VibylBut even on a normal day, i have no respect for those that chose that way Want to help people, there are much more legitimate ways to directly do that.. You want to feel big and important with ya car and badge while helping people well then be a fireman or an EMT Officers and soldiers can see the door |

i knew a cop real well was a friend of mines dad, we used to do 4 footers and he would be two rooms away. he was cool more upper management at that point, he would get us hot cable boxes we would get driven home instead of go to jail.
