Man you guys really would have hated when nancy Reagan was President in the 80's. Yeah man, he destroyed America. What's Biden doing now? What are the Democrats doing now? Just more infighting and posturing. Why defend it?

I'm not defending anything but being a realist. This is how this shit works and it's awful. Nobody under 50 wanted Biden to be the Democratic nominee but he won, by a lot. As I've already said about 100 times everything you want Biden to fix (without the votes to do so) was to counter the awful shit Republicans put in place. In the last 40 years we've had 3 Presidents who were either cognitively impaired or at best doddering old men, we've had one who was a total moron propped up by his family name, we've had two really smart younger Presidents and we had GHWB. We don't have the numbers and we don't have consensus. Go yell at Manchin. If we lose the House and Senate this year and the Oval in 2 more years, Joe Biden is going to look like FDR compared to what starts getting legislated. Anyway, carry on with your meme war.

We all understand the lesser of two evils argument, that's how Biden got elected. He just sucks too and there's no point in being quiet about it when we have to get someone who is not corrupted by corporate money into the presidency asap. The democratic primary is our only hope.
We are creeping towards fascism folks

I agree that he sucks, I just don't think it would be much different if we had (insert your choice here), and nobody has adequately explained to me how it would be.

The Democratic Party helped that happen. Obama kneecapping Bernies campaign and other bullshit. Keep pushing their bullshit line about being helpless and "at least it's not blah". He's barely doing anything and yall act like he's hero just for getting there. You go yell at the folks in DC, you're closer.

Im hating life right now. Did you check the income based payment program? Its an acceptable approach for the SLFP. Link your tax info to the loans and then pay based on your documented income. I have to say, I assume you would pay much less than 800 a month considering my payment amount.

Bernie would have lost by historic margins. People older than me are terrified of Bernie and what he stands for. People are literally more afraid of "socialism" than they are of fascism and I can't make them smarter. I've seen virtually zero posts acting like Joe Biden is a hero. Enjoy the DeSantis administration.

I don't think Bernie would have lost at all, much less by historic margins. Every pre poll I saw had Bernie doing better against Trump than both Biden and Hillary in their presidential races. I get that there was a feeling that people wouldn't vote for Bernie in the general election but the polls did not agree. I remember when everyone seemed to have a feeling that Hillary was going to beat Trump in spite of the polling and that went to shit.

Enjoy the DeSantis administration. Good argument! This restores my faith in the party!

Who in politics is not corrupt on some level? Bernie? Puh-lease.
Yes, we are heading towards facism, and voting for a third party that has no viable chance to win will lead to that.
Biden sucks. They all suck. I just donβt want it to get much much worse.

Yeah, I mean we all can agree that Biden sucks and that we currently have no viable alternative.
That is all a tired conversation and doesnt add any value to the situation.
Do any of us have thoughts on avenues of fixing the democratic party (since building an alternative party doesnt seem realistic)? Filling in alternative democrats that campaign as a challenge to the status quo at the state level sounds nice but can they be competitive against republicans when fighting against their own party? I guess thats where primaries become really important.
Honestly I see it as a problem with voters and center to left leaning culture in general. It doesnt seem like anyone on the left is willing to take patience or compromise with each other to develop a realistic set of platforms to run on that would remain both progressive and measured as more of the center to left warm up to progressive ideas. I think getting some folks that are competent at enacting policy that can actually work (especially by being open to adjusting it where necessary as it encounters difficulty) and demonstrating successful progressive policies, not ALL of them, one or a few at a time, will develop more confidence among potential constituents and allow for support to expand on progressive policies.
What are some successful contemporary progressive policies and politicians we can point to that demonstrate the potential success of progressive policy? How can we feature them better or use them as jump off points for enacting more policies?

Progressive policy positions are very popular amongst the American people. We want affordable Healthcare and education + address the climate crisis. A big problem is that the corporate owned politicians (most of them) and the corporate media all suck from the same teet. They are in this together to hide reality from. How many people know that Medicare for all actually saves the american taxpayer money? Have you ever heard that on CNN fox, or NBC? O hell no. Do those news stations bang away about the corruption that they themselves profit from? Nope. It's going to be hard to even relay accurate information with this system in place. Imo the path forward is getting a progressive in office and that person doing every single thing they can through executive order so that people will feel tangible positive change in their lives. That could be the trigger to moving forward.

How can we feature them better or use them as jump off points for enacting more policies? There hasn't been any good progressive policies to point at for about 40 years or so. It been basically corporate aimed policy since Congress allowed corporations to lobby Congress. The only thing that really matters right now is environmental legislation. (Although part of me thinks it's too late) This is our governments biggest failure. Biden running on enviromental promises that he really put no effort into getting passed is proving that we have a failed system that protects wealth over health. Our whole political system is broke so it doesn't really matter, Biden or Trump, our government is going to continue to protect the wealth. So when you point the finger pull back a little and look at the system not the individual.

Last I heard most people love having their rubbish picked up once a week and mail delivered to their homes, and Medicare.. all forms of socialism.Whatβs so terrible about healthcare for all, free education, all people housed with mental health issues addressed? Oh yeahβ¦ dems are to busy fighting proxy wars in Ukraine, Libya, Sirya, and Yemen. More war and less basic American human needs met is the name of the game it seems.
