Get ready for Trump as president. I don't see any realistic scenarios that keep him from winning unless its some legal thing. Thing is, I doubt things will improve for anyone during his presidency and anticipate him making an ass of himself so maybe it will just be a long process of him finally falling out of favor with the cult. How weak do you have to be to polling behind a guy charged on 91 felonies in 3 federal and one state case, was impeached twice, fucked up on COVID, has a long history of rape, looks to be beholden to Putin and probably other foreign powers, is obviously full of shit when it comes to his supposed business acumen and intelligence, has zero respect for the Constitution and attempted a coup to maintina his power, and least of all is the biggest most annoying narcissistic asshole in the world. I keep reading pundits who say that people aren't paying attention to Trump's legal problems and once those cases start up and if convictions roll in that Trump's support will get pulled out from under him. Really? I don't think you have to follow his cases to know about them and what he's being charged with. Who hasn't made up their mind about him? Who in MAGA world is going to suddenly denounce him if he's found guilty of anything by a Deep State court? Lot of people with their heads in the sand. It does look like that once again the Dems will snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Thanks for pointing that out, ashell. I like Last Week Tonight and how Oliver devotes the entire show to a single issue. I looked on the YouTube channel but couldn't find this episode. Any idea of when it was on or some kind of link? I'm at the point where I'm burned out on the whole depressing shit sandwich/giant douche reality and could use a comedic take on the situation to go help with my newly adopted "No matter which asshole wins I'll figure it out and get by" attitude. Sometimes I think I'm just too damn fragile because I really don't see a lot of people stressing this like they would in the states with "If x wins, there won't be a country anymore" hyperbole. So I'm trying to adopt that and not get my panties in a bunch. There's a phrase here (which I forget) that basically says that for every new law the govt. makes today, by tomorrow the people will have a work-around-it solution. People here are used to dealing with hardship and assholes so I think they're less concerned. Plus they have more important things to focus on like futball and asado. Looks like the episode was October 29th (or maybe the week before) Maybe these will work www.thedailybeast.com/john-oliver-takes-down-worlds-weirdest-wannabe-president-javier-mileimeaww.com/who-is-javier-milei-john-oliver-rips-into-argentinas-eccentric-presidential-candidate-who-defies-economics-and-convention?utm_source=ground.news&utm_medium=referralA thousand thanks.

To show the other side of that poll/coin, Rachel Maddow reports that the NYT shows that around 6% of those respondents would switch their vote from Trump to Biden should Trump be convicted on any count on any of his charges. Will that happen? Who can say at this point? Either way, it should be cause for concern on the Biden team, though they seem to be in denial (or it's strategy?) with their confident remarks about 'putting their heads down and making it happen.' I don't think polls this far out are going to be worth much if anything in the final months before the election, but they do point out that Biden looks weak, esp. considering who he's running against and the baggage he's carrying. There's a lot of time between now and then and for purely speculative gut feelings I think there's a 50% chance that it won't be Trump vs Biden and that it's 50/50 on which of the two won't be the nominee for their party. Preferably both, imo. Trump vs Biden is easily the most depressing choice of my lifetime, easily surpassing Trump/Clinton and even Bush/Gore.

The dems are belligerently unserious for not prepping a younger candidate like a year or two ago.

The dems are belligerently unserious for not prepping a younger candidate like a year or two ago. Not just that, they are refusing to have any primary debates as of now. This shit is crazy. I'm hoping for some trump convictions but with appeals and all, this will drag on past the election, and he will 100% pardon himself on day 1 if he wins the election.

The dems are belligerently unserious for not prepping a younger candidate like a year or two ago. This. The Democratic Party is a shame at best. Just an awful political party. I have zero faith in them. Its all kind of hopeless as far as I can tell. Good time to be a straight, white male I suppose...

Buckle up, hold on, keep yer head down, fly low, avoid radar. www.politico.com/news/magazine/2023/11/07/mag-shafer-trump-dictator-00125767Article didn't mention it, but I'm sure I've read elsewhere how many states, when it comes to elections, now have Trumpistas in charge of certifying results, ratifying electors, etc., and that no matter the results they're gonna make it so their state's electoral college votes go to their daddy. I hope I'm just an overly paranoid cry wolf pessimist, but the Dems have an uphill battle that's not going to be reflected in any poll and they better bring some tanks to the gun fight.

Don't be shocked if we're talking about Youngkin vs. Newsom next year.

Recent Election winners:
Poland > Far Right
Spain > Far Right
Hungary > Far Right
Italy > Far Right
Sweden > Far Right
Finland > Far Right
Argentina > Far Right
Netherlands > Far Right
I'm positive in Argentina no one expected the far right candidate to do well in the early rounds and certainly not win the election. Pretty sure it was a surprise in at least some of the others as well. Who be next? Don't think it can't happen to you (again).

It's the wheel of time.
Make promises to get elected > Don't fight for hardly any of it > Pretend you're killing it which pisses people off > Get voted out by some jackass spitting fire about all the things wrong with the govt > Jackass is jackass and gets voted out by someone making promises they have no intention of realizing
Now featuring a side of the possible end of American democracy
