Why shouldn't they use the only bargaining power they have?
I don't think billionaire team owners are doing it for the love of the game.

Last year I watched the Netflix quarterbacks show and cousins comes off as a balanced, respectful, normal dude. It's just funny to think of him as a guy who's like "fuck the vikings I want the most money I can get" let's squeeze any team willing to pay more for more years. I want to be mega rich" It just seems like something an agent would say, I guess that's why the agent takes the credit. Or they are two faces and blinded by the money I guess us as fans always have to remind ourselves the team means absolutely nothing to these guys. No matter what they say I don't believe it's that black and white. Cousins doesn't need to be shouting from the rafters "I want more money! PAY ME!" He may have felt that his stay with the Vikings was coming to an end, especially considering the fact that they will have to pay Jefferson a boat load of money but they haven't done much else to surround Kirk with a ton of talent, especially considering they also traded away his star running back. He probably wanted to test free agency and Atlanta offered him a boat load of money. They made him an offer he couldn't refuse. I think as fans we are too quick to judge and point fingers at situations, at the end of the day we are not making multi millions of dollars to put our body on the line in a way that could have lasting affects for the rest of our lives.

I agree. I didn't mean to imply Kirk was a dick about any of it, he just made it clear that he was going to maximize his earning power while he had the chance, and he has done that better than most who ever played in the NFL.

CTE is fucking terrifying and most of these dudes are going to be dealing with some degree of it in about a decade. Antonio Brown and Chandler Jones aren't too far removed from their playing days and they seem dangerously mentally compromised.

What the Bears are doing this off-season is nothing short of genius imo. Poles is fucking cooking in the best way possible. Their biggest splash in free agency was retaining Jaylon Johnson and getting him paid. Johnson is arguably a top 5 Corner in the league already and could establish himself as a top 3 by the end of next season. Poles has already added 3 major offensive weapons and multiple lineman to add MUCH needed depth to the position. Allen is older, he has been injury prone but when he is healthy he is one of the best and most reliable receivers in the league. He will not be the #1 in Chicago but he will be an experienced veteran presence that this offense needs. To me this is an obvious set up for drafting Caleb Williams. You are literally giving Caleb the best possible chance to succeed as a rookie qb by giving him multiple 1A receivers, 3 running backs, including a back, that you just signed, who is an above average pass catcher (something the Bears have lacked consistency in since Matt Forte left) and another TE who can stretch the field, which complements your other Tight end who is a redzone nightmare for defenses. Poles has done exactly what he has needed to do to put a team together that will give a new QB the best possible outcome to become the franchise qb that the CHicago fans are hungry for. I am beyond excited for the draft and beyond excited for the future of this franchise, to me it seems like we finally got the right GM and we are about to put a possible franchise qb in an offense that, on paper, can be one of the best in the league. I believe we still draft a WR with the #9 pic too.

My comments were not aimed at you, I think your take was spot on. Every situation is different and should be treated as such. Also we are told what both sides want us to hear, there is always more behind the scenes.

Getting Keenan Allen for a 4th is a really solid grab too. It's a great veteran addition to a team that will need it. It's fun to see the Bears loading up.
I've liked the Rams offseason so far and this is the first draft in a long time that I can actually look forward to. It's been like 4 or 5 years since the Rams have had a first.

Isn't Cousin's one of those hard-core Christians who goes by the "God never said I had to wear rags" mentality?
"If God didn't want me to have this money then he wouldn't have provided it to me."

I also totally get the frustration at being priced out of going to live games and shit because it is insane how prices have skyrocketed for everything. I remember when $20 game day parking at a local BK near Fenway seemed steep, now that would be an unheard of bargain. Greed sucks.

I have had a lot of friends live in Wrigleyville over the years. I remember seeing parking go from $40 to $60, now I believe premier parking by the stadium can be as high as $120 for some games. WTF?

allen for a 4th rounder is a nice get to pair with moore. i wouldn't exactly call gerald everett a TE who can stretch the field, but the bears have made some nice moves this offseason. as they should though with the cap space they had.
now the question still looms, take Caleb on the cheap rookie contract, or let Fields figure it out? it would appear the trade market dried up pretty quickly once free agency started.

I'm pretty sure they have decided to take Caleb at 1, the question is what they do with Fields? Seems like the league called their bluff and doesn't believe they will keep Fields on the roster if they draft Williams. Do they cut him, trade him for a personal pan pizza or have a very uncomfortable year with both on the roster?
