Revenue: In 2023, the Yankees generated $679 million in revenue, the highest in the league.

I don’t believe that is including the money they saved on Rowdy Tellez. 🤪

It was rigged alright...
The White Sox lost 121 games to get THREE AL Central teams in to the playoffs to screw the Red Sox, specifically.
Shameful stuff.

Pirates ownership is THE WORST in pro sports but you can't pretend that the big market, high payroll teams aren't supposed to win every year

Used to be a Dodgers Fan, looks like I'm back for this series And be that as it could may/be, chron...this is the series WE all wanted to see. And they are/were the best 2 teams in baseball for most of the year Roided up n out judge V The Imperical Samurai Gambler no one wanted this series unless you're a yankees or dodgers fan. 2 of the biggest payrolls in the sport proving that you too can buy a WS title if you spend a billion in the offseason. 2 fanbases that are spoiled. couldn't be less excited for this WS...probably won't even watch a single pitch of it to be honest. The team with the highest payroll in baseball has won the series twice in the last 30 years. Baseball has a much bigger problems with billionaires not fielding a competitive team than they do with owners actually spending on their teams.

2024 playoff teams vs. payroll
1. Mets 305 M 2. Yankees 303 M 3. Dodgers 249 M 4. Phillies 243 M 5. Astros 236 M 8. Braves 217 14. Padres 161 M 21. Royals 115 M 23. Brewers 105 M 24. Tigers 103 M 27. Orioles 94 M 28. Guardians 93 M
The A's and Pirates payrolls combined was less than the Padres total payroll. Does it help to spend more money? Yes. Does it guarantee anything? No. 5 of the 12 postseason teams were in the bottom 10 of payroll. The Rangers, Blue jays, Cubs, Giants and Cards all had more than 200 M payrolls and didn't sniff the post-season.

and 3 of the 4 highest payrolls made the LCS series this year lol, what's your point? i'm well aware that spending doesn't equate to success on the field. also aware that billionaire owners are largely to blame in the small market teams lack of spending. teams like the mets/dodgers/yanks often just throw money at their problems and hope it works. not to mention still have the funds to sign top FAs every single offseason. while the vast majority of teams don't have that luxury or owners willing to spend, thus making it a flawed system without a salary cap.

The Cards being all Trumpy, more overtly than usual, and their dogshit play despite their huge payroll has been so disappointing. Im pulling for the Yankees because I know it'll make lots of folks around here happy.

Salary cap leagues are just as flawed and produce mediocrity. Is the salary cap awesome when your QB gets 20% of it and you have to cut good players year after year because the market rate for Kyler Murray is $49 million a year? The vast majority of owners DO have the luxury of spending more on their teams but choose not to. Carl Pohlad spent 44 million on the Twins, is worth 4 billion and is going to sell them for around 1.5 B. The fact that he chose to rarely spend on payroll isn't because he was in a small market, it's because he makes more money when he doesn't spend because the teams you complain about send him money every year.

so what you're saying is MLB needs to implement a minimum spending floor for their MLB rosters, rather than a cap, so these billionaires aren't just getting fat off other revenue streams? because lord knows jerry reinsdorf is making pennies this year on the white sox attendance figures.

Yes, a floor is more important than a cap in my opinion. Fans will come out to watch good teams play and lots of times they will come out to watch bad teams play. It's Jerry's fault if nobody wants to watch his garbage product, it shouldn't be up to the Mets and Yankees to make sure Jerry is making money.
