I was putting the back seats up after climbing in it to inspect the rear hatch, I set the keys down (you know where this is going), clicked the seat into place which sandwiched they keys and pressed the lock button on the fob, and then I shut the door right after without thinking. I locked the only set of keys in it.
I walked off base to the mechanic which wasnt far and he gets me a metal rod so I can push the unlock button from the window which I luckily left cracked. He says you cant slim jim it because the BMW design is different, and you cant grab the lock rod either and do it manually because they recess into the door. Well, the button didnt work either and I dropped the rod in the car too...
I see my buddy working the school bus routes and he has the great idea to go across the street to the Navy fire squad and ask them to help. They were actually super stoked to have something to do instead of sitting around and trimming the banana tree behind the station. First we tried a broom handle, and I think because the lock button on the fob was still being pressed, it didnt do anything. So they break out this long hooked rod and try to open the doors. Nothing. Finally we had to hook the seat release to fold them down in the back, and then I fished the key onto the hook and was able to lift it from the back window to the front window where one of the fireman grabbed them. I'm so grateful they were there and had the right tool, and it saved me a locksmith call which would have cost a lot.
Next item: get another key.

Diesel Diary: Feb 7 Took the car to the DIY shop where you can use the tools and put it on the lift. There was no under chassis fuel filter and no shared fuel rail which confirms this car does not have the swirl flaps which are prone to failure and engine damage. So, I can send those parts back for a refund, and it's less work that I need done.

Whenever I see this thread title I have Mick Jagger singing it in my head to the tune of 'Hey Negrita.'

Definitely a WTF kind of video. It's like Mick took things as far as they could go in that direction and then decided to go in the completely opposite direction (even with the discofied 'Miss You') with 'Some Girls.'

the "wife" left my jacket in Siracusa for valentines day which was kind of a gift becuase i got to have a morning of spirited motoring to recover it. I hit 180 km per hour on the way to retrieve it which was nice because i got to spool up the turbo in 5th gear. Its sort of like the autobahn because the only cars that were passing me were new BMWs, Porsche, Mercedes, and the odd pair of Jeep SUVs. All of the teeny Italian cars, Citroen, et al were in the right lane. And then later i flogged the Renault to check out the lights in the next town over because what the hay Carnivale'. Re: Checklist i slapped the door trim back on with lil burr's help because the clips finally came in. All in all i didnt even have to use my AK but i did hear Ice T cover Jimi.

Rear differential was loose as suspected. Not fixable by u joint though: the whole thing needs to be replaced. Not doing that because it's pricey and I'm going to treat it as a wait-til-it-breaks.
Somehow the wife got the rear hatch open but my dumbass flipped the latch on it and now its stuck locked and I can't close it. Oh well. Will probably be easier for the shop to fix. I had the pcv valve cleaned and it's approaching 400,000 kilometers.
I put in new trim clips months ago and two have already popped out again... I wonder if someone bumped me.

Got a new rock and peanut steering because it failed inspection and my AC fan broke so that's new too. I finally have corner lights in the front now also instead of bare bulbs exposed. The serpentine belt pulley is new and the rear hatch is fixed. If I really wanted to dump coin into it I'd get the fog light fixed and a new headliner. It doesn't have any urgent needs anymore. I'm glad it's fixed up a bit now but I've paid for more repairs than I bought the thing for... My seat belt latch just stopped working - that's an easy fix though. Hit a major kilometer-stone yesterday

I got blue smoke when I decelerate and then give it some gas. Internet research says that closed throttle is a high pressure scenario which sucks in oil and then throttling again burns it giving me bluish exhaust which indicates I need new valve seals. Yeehaw. At least I was able to find someone knowledgeable of the issue instead of paying to go down a list of possible causes.

At least I was able to find someone knowledgeable of the issue instead of paying to go down a list of possible causes. Nope. It was the oil breather. I asked to have it replaced last time I took it in for work and they just cleaned it instead. I replaced it myself for like 35 bucks since I work in a garage now. That solved my blue smoke issue, but now it's running rich and giving me black smoke when under hard acceleration - I'm rolling coal for real now. This week I will clean the air sensor and see if that takes care of it. If that doesn't do it then I'll start looking at the turbo. It does drive a lot smoother already, and i put new glow plugs in so cold starts are running correctly now too.
